Synopsis of The Story of Qiu-Ju

In a small mountain village in northwest China, Wang Qinglai (Liu Peiqi), the husband of the village woman Qiu Ju (Gong Li), was kicked and injured in the lower body during an argument with the village chief. He could no longer do farm work and could only lie in bed all day. The village chief didn't express this. One state. Qiu Ju was so angry that she tried to argue with the village chief but was ignored. To get some relief, she filed a complaint with the village chief to the township government. After some patient mediation by Li Gongan from the township government, the village head promised to compensate Qiu Ju's family for their financial losses, but he threw the money on the ground and refused to apologize. Although the village chief's actions were arrogant and unreasonable, everyone still felt that the matter could be brought to an end. Qiu Ju was the only one who was angered and vowed to seek an explanation, so she and her sister came to the county town with a big belly and began a long journey of filing a complaint.
