Synopsis of Caravaggio

The film is a meditation on sex, crime and art. The director successfully presents images and paintings, two important elements in life, and richly depicts the life of the legendary Italian painter. This film is a biographical film. The British avant-garde director Jarman was also a painter. With his reverence for the great artist Caravaggio and his strong interest in the painter's life, he made this piece about the artist's life. The film's techniques and themes are eclectic, giving people a sense of freshness from all angles. The film won the Silver Bear Award at the 1986 Berlin International Film Festival and was one of the best-selling films in the UK in 1986.
