# Synopsis of The Wind That Shakes the Barley

In the 1920s, conflicts between Britain and Ireland continued to deepen, and the Irish War of Independence eventually broke out. Damian (Cillian Murphy), a medical student who originally had a bright future, learned that the war broke out and decided to join the army. He returned to his hometown and joined the IRA with his younger brother Teddy (Padraic Delaney) and good friend Dan (Liam Cunningham). With their passion and excellent tactics, this group of young people repeatedly defeated the "Black and Brown" militia forces employed by the British government. Their resistance forced the British army to agree to sign a treaty. However, this also became a fork in the road for the former comrades to part ways... The film won the Palme d'Or at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival, the Best Cinematography Award at the 2006 European Film Festival, the Audience Award for Best Irish Film at the 2007 Irish Television and Film Awards, and the IFTA Best Supporting Actor (Liam Cunningham) and Best Film Awards.
