Synopsis of Gaslight

The unexpected death of her aunt leaves a large inheritance to the beautiful and kind-hearted girl Paula (Ingrid Bergman), which attracts the covetousness of the evil-minded young man Anton (Charles Boyer). After successfully pursuing Paula, the two returned to live in the old London house where Paula's aunt was once killed. Paula, who thought she had a perfect husband and a happy life, was gradually troubled by strange phenomena. She would always hear strange noises, things often disappeared and reappeared inexplicably, the new maid also treated her with contempt, and the gas lights began to flicker. Suddenly, Anton hinted that everything was Paula's own hallucination and that Paula had a mental problem. Just when Paula is slowly having a mental breakdown and is on the verge of going crazy, a young detective Berlin (played by Joseph Cotten) appears. He discovers that Paula is being isolated, and the mastermind behind it is her perfect husband...
