Synopsis of On the Waterfront

On the docks of New York Harbor, the underworld forces headed by Johnny ruthlessly oppressed the dock workers. Terry (Marlon Brando), a former boxer, came to the dock to work for Johnny. His friend Joey was pushed down from the roof of the building by his subordinate Charlie, who was also Terry's brother, because he exposed the crimes of Johnny and others to the Crime Commission. Joey's sister Edie (Eva Marie Saint) vowed to avenge her brother and launched an investigation with the parish priest, Father Barry. No one with knowledge of the matter dared come forward to report. Terry also witnessed Joey's murder. Although he sympathized with Edie and wanted to help her escape the persecution of the underworld, he did not report his brother's crime. In their contact with Edie, the two gradually developed feelings. When Edie learned that he was an accomplice in her brother's murder, she rejected him. Later, his brother was also killed by Johnny in order to save Terry. Numerous criminal incidents made Terry determined to expose Johnny's crimes. On the dock, he was seriously injured by Johnny's men. Priest and Edith came to support him. The dock workers who had been silent also woke up. They united to fight for justice...
