Synopsis of Cool Hand Luke

Lucas Jackson (Paul Newman), a Vietnam War veteran, was sentenced to two years in prison for dismantling the town's parking meters on a drunken night. From the beginning, he challenged Dragline (George Kennedy), the leader in the prison. Dragline was much bigger than Lucas and beat Lucas until he was unable to fight back, but Lucas refused to give in, thus earning Dragline's respect. In prison poker games, Lucas repeatedly won and was named Cool Hand Luke. Lucas was encouraged by the visits from his mother and nephew. Although he had to endure many harsh conditions and inhumane treatment in prison, he was still full of hope for the future. However, his mother's death plunged him into deep pain. He wants to escape from prison more than before, but repeated failures and the ruthlessness of the prison warden make his path increasingly difficult... The film won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor.
