The Merchant of Venice

Synopsis of The Merchant of Venice

The young man Bassanio (Joseph Fiennes) wants to propose to the wealthy businessman Miss Portia (Lynn Collins). For this wish, he must pay three thousand ducats, but he has no choice but to propose to the warm-hearted lady. Businessman Antonio (Jeremy Irons) borrows money. As it happens, Antonio can only ask the Jewish Shylock (Al Pacino) to borrow the money due to business turnover problems. Antonio has always had a strong aversion to the Jews, and Shylock made a surprising request: Antonio must return the money as scheduled, otherwise, he will cut off a pound of Antonio's flesh. Bassanio finally gets his wish and marries Portia, but Antonio is in trouble due to Shylock's debt collection because of business failure. Shylock also wants to take this opportunity to avenge Antonio's insult to the Jews. Antonio's pound of flesh seemed to have to be cut off, but the clever Portia saved the day with a clever move.
