Synopsis of A Bridge Too Far

At the end of the European War, optimism gradually spread throughout the Allied forces. In order to end the war early, Allied generals from various places believed that with a fierce attack, they could go straight to Berlin to end the war early. So they rashly dropped a large number of paratroopers behind the German camp to capture the bridge across the Rhine River in Arnhem. Unexpectedly, they encountered stubborn resistance from the German army, and the Allies paid a heavy price in casualties. This could be called the most dramatic battle in World War II and ended in a tragic defeat for the Allies. The war blockbuster "A Bridge Too Far" directed by Academy Award-winning director Richard Attenborough is adapted from the novel of the same name by Cornelius Ryan. The film reflects and celebrates the fighting spirit of the Allied forces in the bloody battle in World War II, and is known as a super war blockbuster in the history of film. The star cast of this film is unprecedentedly strong, gathering dozens of stars from several countries, such as James Caan, Michael Caine, Sean Connery, Robert Redford, Anthony Hopkins, etc. The film won many awards and nominations at the 31st British Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards in 1978, including Best Cinematography, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Original Soundtrack.
