Synopsis of In The Valley of Elah
This film is based on real events. Hank Delfield (Tommy Lee Jones), the father of Iraqi infantryman Mike Delfield (Jonathan Tucker), suddenly received news one day that his son had disappeared after returning home. Veteran Hank drove to the military camp to investigate for himself, and learned bit by bit about the psychological trauma Mike experienced in Iraq from the images on his son's cell phone. Not long after, the police discovered that Mike had been killed, dismembered and burned. Hank's wife, Joan (Susan Sarandon), was so devastated after learning the bad news that she couldn't help herself. While investigating the case, Hank met local detective Emily (Charlize Theron). The two established a special friendship and stepped closer to the truth of the incident. The film was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor (Tommy Lee Jones), and was nominated for the Catholic Cultural Award and the Golden Lion Award at the 64th Venice Film Festival.
